The Central Election Commission informs election contestants and referendum campaigners that it will not respond to political provocations as its mission is to ensure the proper organization and conduct of elections, without getting involved in political disputes. The message comes in the context of recent attacks on the institution. The CEC recommends election competitors to challenge in court the decisions they consider illegal, IPN reports.
“We also call on election competitors to act within the limits of a civilized political behavior, to strictly observe the provisions of the legislation in force and to renounce any attempts to exert influence on the CEC, as they are doomed to failure from the start,” reads a press release issued by the institution.
The CEC also calls for responsibility and urges political actors and election contestants to be aware of the fact that any attack on the Commission, which is based on political interests, can affect the climate in which the campaign prior to the national constitutional referendum and presidential election must take place.
