CEC makes public details before elections

On the last one hundred meters, the Central Election Commission (CEC) enumerated all the activities carried out during the two months of the election campaign preceding the June 5 local elections, Info-Prim Neo reports.
In a press briefing on Friday, CEC president Iurie Ciocan said there were established 1,955 polling places all over the country. As many as 21,500 persons will work on the election bodies.
“Thirty days before the local elections, we finished the procedure for registering the candidates. As many as 4,315 persons run for mayors, 50,477 – for local councilors, while 8,042 – for district councilors,” said Iurie Ciocan.
There are 2,666,090 persons with the right to vote in Moldova.
Iurie Ciocan also said that 7,406,685 ballots were printed for the local elections. The ballots in Comrat are the longest – 2.18 meters. They were folded up in the form of a brochure.
The CEC president estimated that the second round of voting will be held in 40 – 45% of the mayors’ offices.
The CEC accredited 130 international observers and 990 national observers. Another 16 applications for accrediting international observers and 20 applications for accrediting national observers will be examined on June 3.
Iurie Ciocan also said that an exit poll will be held in the municipality of Chisinau. A number of 204 persons will be involved in collecting and transmitting the information to the CEC.
The local general elections will take place on June 5.
