Democracy Home Movement and Media Association Pro-Diaspora request the Central Electoral Commission (CEC) and the Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration (MAEIE) to apologize publicly for not having assured proper conditions for voters abroad on November 28, Info-Prim Neo reports. “We demand CEC, namely mister Eugen Stirbu, president, and mister Iurie Ciocan, secretary, to have the courage admit their guilt and apologize to those people whose rights have been infringed. We also demand the MAEIE to publicly apologize for the inconveniences our citizens abroad had to endure”, said Arcadie Cebanu, jurist of Democracy at Home (DA) Movement. The latter organization and Media Association Pro-Diaspora mention that Moldova citizens voting abroad had to wait for hours in queues, in cold, and there weren’t enough ballot papers. Representatives of the communities abroad had requested before the elections for additional polling stations to be opened and for more ballot papers as well. However, authorities ignored the demand. “This request was submitted on the 6th of October. You see, a long before the elections”, Pro-Diaspora president Stefan Florea said. “We’re troubled by this question: is it bad faith or total negligence at fault for this issue?” said Vasile Costiuc, president of DA Movement. The 2 organizations intend to petition CEC and MAEIE, demanding an investigation regarding the situation that occurred during the voting abroad and the punishment of those responsible. If no measures are taken, they will appeal to the ECHR. 75 polling stations have been opened abroad for the elections on November 28. In 4 of them, namely in Bologna, Paris, Rome and Moscow, there weren’t enough ballot papers and about 900 people voted on A4 sheets of paper.
