CEC accredits over 1500 observers to monitor local general elections

The Central Election Committee accredited over 1500 national and international observers on Friday, May 25 to monitor the elections on June 3.
The most of poll-watchers – 1400 – were accredited to monitor the elections on behalf of the League for the Defence of Human Rights of Moldova. 78 international observers were accredited at the request of the OSCE/ODIHR. Also, there were accredited observers on behalf of Eurasia Foundation, National Democratic Institute for International Relations, ADEPT, on behalf of the central election authorities of Georgia and Romania.
Representatives from specialised organisations such as for the defence of human rights are allowed to participate as observers and electoral experts, as outlined in the Regulations approved by the Commission.
The observers shall submit the accreditation request at least 5 days before the elections, and CEC is obliged to respond within 5 days, but not later than one day before the election day.
