The Causeni District Hospital was equipped with an ultrasound machine to the value of US$40,000. The machine was purchased with the financial support of the Government of Japan through the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (Kusanone), IPN reports.

First Secretary of the Embassy of Japan in Moldova Mori Mariko said that the new ultrasound machine will make it possible to perform several thousand examinations per year at this medical institution. The Japanese official also said that Japan has been the Republic of Moldova’s partner in the medical and healthcare sectors for many years.

The Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects or Kusanone was launched in Moldova in 2008. So far, Japan has provided US$7.3 million in grant funding for 88 projects in such fields as education, health and public utilities.
