Individuals who intend to cross the border with an amount greater than €10,000 (or the equivalent in any currency) but not exceeding €50,000 are required to declare it in writing to the Customs Service and present an authorization from the National Bank of Moldova. As long as these procedures are followed, the individual can cross the border with the full amount, without having to pay any taxes. If the amount exceeds €50,000, only bank transfers are allowed.

According to the Law on Customs Tariffs, national currency, foreign currency (except for numismatic purposes), as well as securities are exempt from customs duty.

Individuals have the right to bring in or take cash out of Moldova regardless of age, except that you need to be 16 years old to submit a written declaration.

Amounts smaller than €10,000 (or equivalent) may be declared optionally. But if requested by the customs officer, the individual is required to verbally declare the amount of money they have on them.

Failure to declare attracts liability according to the legislation. Undeclared amounts may be subject to confiscation.
