Almost 6,000 new cases of acute respiratory infections were reported in Chisinau municipality last week alone, by over 1,000 cases more than a week before. A number of 145 cases of seasonal flu were recorded in the period, IPN reports.
According to the Chisinau Public Health Center, children were involved in over 60% of the new cases of acute respiratory infections, with the children younger than six being the most affected. Of the total number of cases of flu, 113 were in children.
The epidemiological situation remains at the average multiannual level that is typical for the cold period of the year.
To avoid catching the infection, contact with infected persons should be avoided. The hands should be washed with soap and water as often as possible. The rooms should be aired and the infected areas should be disinfected. It is also recommended eating products that contain vitamin C, such as lime, black currant and gooseberry, as well as garlic and onion as they are antimicrobial.
