The Chisinau Prosecutor’s Office opened an investigator to establish the exact circumstances in which members of the Bashtovoi family poisoned themselves with gas and the legality of the actions of the ambulance doctors, who could not enter the house because nobody opened the gate, IPN reports.
The incident happened in the home of former MP Andrei Bashtovoi on January 30. His wife Svetlana Bashtovoi was found dead in the house, while their son Mircea was found unconscious. It was established that the boiler wasn’t properly connected, while the chimney was stopped up and, as a result, the CO2 accumulated inside the house.
Andrei Bashtovoi and another son of his Valentin serve time in jail for misappropriation, but were set free for 72 hours to prepare and take part in the funeral of Svetlana Bashtovoi.
On a social networking site, the Ministry of Health says the ambulance team acted legally. Bashtovoi’s son called the 903 service at 6:39am, saying he had pain in the chest and dyspnea. A cardiologic team was sent to the spot. When these reached the address, they saw that the entrance gate was locked and there was no lighting in the courtyard or other signs showing that someone was waiting for them.
The ambulance team had stayed there for 30 minutes. In the period, the ambulance used the lighting and sound signals, while the doctor repeatedly phoned the caller on the mobile phone, but nobody answered it. The police weren’t called because there were no suspicions of violence or aggression. The legislation does not stipulate cases when an ambulance team can enter a house by force.
