The carriers working in the public transport sector of the municipality of Soroca didn’t operate routes on February 1 in protest at the local authorities’ refusal to raise fares.
Contacted by IPN for a comment, mayor of Soroca Lilia Pilipetski said representatives of the carriers attended the morning meeting of the Transport Commission. During several months, the carriers asked to increase the fare from 2 to 4 lei and insist on this even if the local authorities on January 23 decided to reduce the local tax paid by these business entities from 1,000 to 100 lei.
The mayor noted it was agreed that the public transport as from February 3 will work as usual. If not, there are other carriers that are ready to provide this service at the fare of 2 lei
In the municipality of Soroca, there are 50 business entities that provide public transport services. The fare of 2 lei was set several years ago.
