The IPN news agency has identified some of the problems of Chisinau municipality and has asked the candidates for the position of mayor of the capital how they intend to solve them.
Alexandru Fetescu, the candidate of the Liberal Democratic Party of Moldova for mayor of the capital, considers that the situation of the Bâc river is catastrophic for the entire length. The candidate says that the pollution norm of the Bâc river is eight times higher than the permissible limit, not only in the perimeter of Chisinau municipality. The water is devoid of life, polluted, the dirty banks have been transformed into dump sites.
Alexandru Fetescu aims to identify the solutions jointly with all the state institutions responsible for environmental protection and economic recovery of the riverbed. The PLDM candidate states that the situation can be rectified gradually starting with the identification and elimination of pollution sources and ending with the arrangement of the riverbed and the adjacent riverbed.
In this regard, Alexandru Fetescu says that the rehabilitation and capitalization on the Bâc river is the subject of a large-scale project, based on a professional, feasible, sustainable vision. The candidate considers that it is possible to arrange 9 waterfalls from the entrance of the river on the territory of Chisinau municipality, to Mihai Viteazul street.
Thus, according to Alexandru Fetescu, the riverbed can be widened in different portions from 30 to 80 meters. The PLDM candidate claims that in the section from Mihai Viteazul to the city exit, the riverbed can be paved with natural stone. Until then, there is an urgent need to stop the wastewater discharge into the river, increase fines for violating environmental legislation and start the urgent construction of wastewater treatment plants in the cities of Straseni, Chisinau and Anenii Noi, proposes Alexandru Fetescu.
Lilia Ranogaeț, candidate of the National Liberal Party for the mayor of the capital, says that the situation of the Bâc river is deplorable, the river water being deprived of life and posing major dangers due to excessive pollution. The PNL candidate considers that the Bâc river degradation is caused by the discharge of waste water.
Lilia Ranogaeț believes that, in addition to the fact that much tougher measures have to be taken against the economic agents which throw toxic waste into the riverbed, there is a need for a functional, new treatment plant.
According to the PNL candidate, the Bâc river problem must be solved at the country level. Lilia Ranogaeț says that the Bâc river flows into Ghidighici. The 30-year-old dam needs to be repaired and cleaned of mud. Another problem is the concrete paved segment of the Bâc river between Circus area and the Railway Station, which leads to the death of the river, says Lilia Ranogaeț.
The candidate of the National Liberal Party for the position of mayor of the capital has specified that these problems must be solved in order to create conditions for the river to have a full riverbed and then to arrange green spaces and recreation areas along the river bank.
Asked about this subject, the candidate of the Liberal Party Dorin Chirtoaca did not offer an answer.
