On December 18, in the context of the International Migrants Day, employees of the Migration and Asylum Bureau of the Ministry of Internal Affairs offered symbolic gifts to migrants in the Republic of Moldova, in a gesture meant to underline the message "Moldova is your home too," IPN reports.

The event was designed to strengthen the message that the Republic of Moldova complies with international standards in the field of migration and asylum, promoting the integration of migrants into the local community, modernizing admission and monitoring procedures, as well as facilitating legal migration.

At the end of the third quarter of this year, the General Inspectorate for Migration reported over 21,000 legally documented foreign citizens and stateless persons in the Republic of Moldova, coming from 122 countries. Of these, 5,664 had the right of permanent residence and 15,408 had the right of temporary residence. Most of the migrants came to reunite their families, and others are studying, working, volunteering or have invested in our country.

The head of the General Inspectorate for Migration Valentin Fyodorov said the Republic of Moldova has the opportunity to demonstrate that it is ready to move to a new stage: "We can facilitate access to education, work and essential services. Through involvement, we grow together as a community and as a country, to create favorable conditions for safe, legal migration harmonized with European provisions."

Vadym Burhoch, who is from Odessa region, is an example of successful integration. Arriving in the Republic of Moldova 12 years ago to study at the State University of Physical Education and Sport, Vadym later obtained his master's degree. He currently works as a primary school teacher, being appreciated for his teaching methods.

"It is important to have the documents in order because you have the opportunity to legally study, to get a job. The first years were difficult, but I received support from my mates. Since 2017, I have been extending my residence permit every year. This year, I obtained a permanent residence permit and I hope that in three years I will be able to apply for citizenship," said Vadym Burhoch.

The campaign "Moldova is my home too, my involvement matters" was launched by the General Inspectorate for Migration, in partnership with the International Organization for Migration. The event promotes legal migration, harmonious integration and active involvement of migrants in the development of the local community.

Migration, a phenomenon intensified by economic, social and political differences between regions, requires regional and international cooperation. International Migrants Day, instituted by the UN General Assembly on December 4, 2000, is an opportunity for solidarity and support for migrants from all over the world.
