The house in the municipality of Cahul that was seriously damaged in an explosion in the morning of March 21 was connected to the gas supply illegally. Specialists of Moldovagaz found a pipe hidden under plaster that went through the wall to the meter. Illegal gas was taken through an improvised hosepipe, IPN reports.

“The 904 gas intervention service of SRL “Cahul-gaz” immediately travelled to the scene and disconnected the house from the gas supply so as to prevent possible consequences of an eventual gas leak. The house was fully destroyed in the blast. One person was hurt. The victim said the explosion occurred when the light was turned on. The doctor on guard ascertained severe burdens of the arms and legs,” the company said in a press release.

Moldovagaz noted that a number of tragedies happened the last few years as a result of the non-observance of safety rules when using natural gas, with the human factor being the key one.

Two persons were taken out of debris by rescuers as a result of a blast that occurred in a house in the municipality of Cahul early this morning. A 72-year-old woman in a state of shock and a man aged 57 who suffered burns were admitted to the district hospital. Elements of buildings situated nearby were damaged.
