The Cabinet endorsed the bill to denounce the Convention on the Interparliamentary Assembly of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), which was signed in Minsk on May 26, 1995, IPN reports.

Ruslan Bolbocean, secretary of state of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, said the Republic of Moldova signed the Convention on October 23, 1997 and this took effect on June 2, 1998.

“After consulting the President of the Republic of Moldova and representatives of the Government, the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova proposed denouncing the given treaty,” said Ruslan Bolbocean, invoking the current regional context created by Russia’s aggression against Ukraine.

“No negative consequences were identified after analyzing the political impact of the denouncement of the given Convention at internal, bilateral, regional and multilateral levels and on other parties to the treaty and third parties. Moreover, it is noted that the given platform for the Republic of Moldova didn’t achieve its goal – to solve the real problems faced by our state during the last few decades, like the Transnistrian conflict,” runs the bill.

The draft law to denounce the Convention on the Interparliamentary Assembly of the Commonwealth of Independent State is to be adopted by Parliament.
