The Cabinet approved the draft law to amend the Code of Audiovisual Media Services so that it allows creating a Russian-language TV station that will be managed by the national public media service provider, IPN reports.

"The Cabinet supports the need to improve access to information of public interest given the dissemination of fake news and disinformation, this aspect being important for the creation of an informational alternative for the citizens of the Republic of Moldova, especially for those who live on the left bank of the Nistru," reads the Cabinet’s opinion.

At the same time, in order to ensure the access of all groups of national minorities to the programs produced by the public company "Teleradio-Moldova", the Cabinet considers it necessary to consider the possibility of creating subsidiaries of the company in the languages of national minorities.

The bill that provides for the creation of the M3 TV station was drafted by a group of MPs of the Party of Action and Solidarity. According to them, it is important for the state to provide an audiovisual media service accessible to national minorities in order to improve the social and political integration of citizens from various ethnic groups, providing them with a public media source with verified, correct and transparent resources.
