The Cabinet endorsed a draft decision on the provision of assistance to farmers affected by the consequences of the crises of 2022. According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry, the financial assistance of 200 million lei intended for micro and small farmers and only for crops of the first group will help improve the precarious financial situation of about 3,000 farmers. It goes to financial assistance for cultivating about 276,000 hectares of crops of the first group, IPN reports.
“The goal is to support the micro and small farmers to supply the population of the Republic of Moldova with food products. The given decision stipulates the procedure for providing one-off assistance to small and medium-sized farmers that cultivated socially important crops, such as wheat, barley, rice, oats and triticale, for securing fodder for the anima-breeding sector in the autumn of 2022,” said Deputy Prime Minister Vladimir Bolea, Minister of Agriculture.
According to him, the assistance will be calculated by the Agency for Intervention and Payments in Agriculture based on the submitted applications. The method of calculating the assistance will be decided when the eligible areas per applicant are determined.
The Cabinet also approved a draft decision concerning the regulations for distributing the diesel fuel provided by Romania to farmers affected by the drought of 2022. “The goal of this decision is to support the farmers affected by the severe drought of 2022 and the crises witnessed in the region by providing external humanitarian assistance in the form of diesel fuel. Assistance will be also offered to farmers whose crop in the phytotechny sector was affected by drought in the proportion of 50% and more,” stated Vladimir Bolea.
The Cabinet’s meeting was held amidst a protest mounted by farmers in sign of warning. They accused the authorities of not satisfying the demands they formulated during the June protests.
