Mineral resources of fuel will cover 93% of the world demand of energy by year 2030, compared to the 90% covered at the moment. The use of petroleum, as well as the use of coal, will decrease while the consumption of energy produced of natural gas will grow up. These conclusions have been drawn by OPEC and are contained in the report for the year 2007. At the moment, the world demand for energy is covered 39% by oil, 27% by coal, 23% by natural gas and 10% by alternative resources, like nuclear energy or hydro-energy. By 2030, the use of petroleum will decrease down to 36.5% and coal will cover 26.8% of world energy consumption. The use of the energy produced from natural gas will constantly increase up to 27.4%. OPEC estimates a growing demand of crude oil by 22% in central and eastern European countries. However, compared to the world consumption of energy, these states remain to be of little significance, summing up 1.1 million barrels per day. North America will continue to be world’s largest consumer of fuel, with 29 million bpd. However its demand will grow only by13.7% in the next 25 years. China will become the second largest consumer; its demand for crude oil will double in the next 25 years and will reach 16.4 million bpd. In 2006, the consumption of crude oil in Romania constituted 233 thousand bpd, representing 0.27% of the world consumption. The largest consumer of the region, Poland, has an average consumption rate of 500 thousand bpd and represented in 2006 only 0.6% of the world fuel consumption. According to official information, in 2006 Moldova (without the eastern districts) imported 1,418.2 thousand cubic metres of natural gas, 195 thousand tonnes of petrol and 308 thousand tonnes of diesel oil.
