Two brothers aged 7 and 11 drowned in a lake near Taraclia village of Cahul district in the afternoon of August 4. The two minors, together with a friend of theirs, went to swim. The seven-year-old boy was in the water. At a certain moment, he started to go under the water and his brother rushed to help him, but they both drowned, IPN reports.

According to the Civil Protection and Emergencies Service, their friend, who was on the bank, got scared and ran away. A cow herder, who was nearby, called the police and the rescuers. A team of frogmen of the Cahul Emergencies Division came to the spot. The body of the 11-year-old boy was found in over an hour. The other boy was found later. The search was difficult as the bottom of the lake was sharp.

The Civil Protection and Emergencies Service warns the parents not to leave the children unsupervised. The minors who go swimming alone cannot help themselves in emergencies. The life and safety of the small ones depends on the care of grownups.
