The Broadcasting Coordination Council (BCC) issued a broadcast license to the TV channel Moldova 2, based on a decision taken in its April 29 meeting. The representatives of the National Public Broadcaster “Teleradio-Moldova” said this will be a generalist TV channel that will broadcast news, features, cultural, recreational, sports and educational programs, IPN reports.

Moldova 2 programs director Ilona Spataru said that the new TV channel will broadcast nonstop by cable and will have national coverage. The launch of Moldova 2 was recommended by the European Broadcasting Union. Moldova 1 is to broadcast a large volume of sports content, but cannot do this owing to the lack of airtime. Moldova 2 will thus help Moldova 1. It will broadcast the 2016 Summer Olympics, the European Football Championship and other international sports competitions,” she stated.

Moldova 1 director Mircea Surdu said the new TV channel will work based on the technology and infrastructure of Moldova 1. A part of the staff will be transferred to the new channel.

BCC member Mariana Onceanu-Hadarca said a new TV channel offers an additional chance of diversifying the TV services provided for the population. This is also a chance to multiply the number of programs dedicated to ethnic minorities. “They planned a number of projects and I hope they will succeed. I think this is an opportunity for those from the public TV channel to identify the target audience and to work to conquer it,” she stated.

The Council’s chairman Dinu Ciocan said he wants this to be a viable project that will resist in time. “I hope it will be an original channel that will attract the public and will enlarge its audience,” he noted.
