The director of the Market Economy Institute Roman Chircă said exaggerated panic is created around the depreciation of the leu witnessed the past few days and the currency market speculators are waiting for such fuss. The economic expert noted such a fluctuation is slightly more worrisome than normally. According to him, there are particular preconditions, such as the increased demand for currency and the political instability in the Republic of Moldova. “I think the leu will depreciate further against the main foreign currencies, but the fluctuations are minimal and not at all significant,” he stated.

The National Bank of Moldova said the foreign currency market of Moldova is now at a temporary readjustment stage, the volatility and pace of depreciation against the reference currency, the euro, being closely monitored. “There are no preconditions for crisis situations on the foreign currency market as there are minor discrepancies between the supply and demand for foreign currency. The main market operators behave calmly and work as usual,” stated the central bank.

The leaders of the political bloc ACUM had separate meetings today with United States Ambassador Dereck Hogan, European Union Ambassador Peter Michalko, and Russian Ambassador Oleg Vasnetsov. Andrei Năstase and Maia Sandu met with the three envoys in order to share their views on how the problems accumulated over the last few years could be solved and how the impasse following the February legislative elections could be overcome.

According to political commentator Corneliu Ciurea, for the Bloc ACUM, a dialogue with the Party of Socialists will be fatal. For his part, commentator Anatol Țăranu said that if the Socialists do not come somehow into contact with the PDM, it will mean this is the decision of Moscow, not of the Socialists.

The president of the Party “Dignity and Truth Platform” (PPPDA) Andrei Năstase called on the Socialists to return to a statement they issued in 2016, which centered on the same subject of de-oligarchization proposed by ACUM, and to update it so that it could be adopted in concert by the MPs of the PSRM and ACUM. According to him, all the currently witnessed delays lead to the dissolution of Parliament.

MP of the Bloc ACUM Sergiu Litvinenko reiterated that the bloc ACUM does not want a coalition or an alliance with the PSRM. “Such an alliance is impossible on principle. If the Party of Socialists intends to further insist on an alliance, it will be clear that it wants snap elections,” he stated. Their opinions on the issue were also stated by the president of the Association “Voievod” Nicolae Pascaru, public policy expert Ștefan Gligor and constitutional law expert Teodor Cârnaț.
