The bridge that joins the villages Cotul Morii and Obileni of Hancesti district runs the risk of falling it. If the residents of Cotul Morii are not evacuated immediately, they may remain blocked by floodwaters, the head of Hancesti district Anatol Chetraru said in a video news conference, quoted by Info-Prim Neo.
“The bridge is damaged. If we do not fortify it, we risk losing connection with the inhabitants of Cotul Morii,” said Anatol Chetraru. About 700 houses in Hancesti district have been flooded. 1,700 villagers have been evacuated. 216 families remained without homes in Nemteni alone. The Government sent ten boats to the affected areas to help the people save their possessions.
“The local authorities were to build a dam. Instead, a former forester dug a pond and we now suffer because of this,” a woman from Cotul Morii told Info-Prim Neo's reporter.
Minister of Justice Alexandru Tanase and Minister of Labor, Social Protection and Family Valentina Buliga traveled to the damaged bridge. The officials describe the floods in Hancesti as tragic calamity and say the authorities mobilized all the resources to help the flood victims. The Hancesti mayor's office brought 1,000 breads, while the Ministry of Labor, Social Protection and Family – clothes for children. The inundated houses are guarded by the police and servicemen so as to prevent thefts when the floodwaters recede.
A wall of the school in Dancu village of the same district collapsed. The local authorities say it could be repaired only in autumn. The Prut water level in Briceni district is increasing. Eight settlements there are in danger of being flooded. About 3,000 hectares of crop fields have been flooded. The damage was estimated at over 31 million lei. Eight houses have been partially flooded in Edinet district. Three bridges have been damaged.
