The beds for grownups can pose a threat to little kids. A boy aged eight months from Chisinau fell out of such a bed and suffered brain injury and a fracture of the cranial bones, IPN reports.

Elena Sauga, vice director of the Municipal Children’s Hospital “Valentin Ignatenko”, where the child was admitted, said that this is not the first case of the kind. The small children left to sleep on beds for adults without supervision can turn over when sleeping and can fall out. The brain injury they can suffer is a dangerous trauma. There were also cases when the children turned their face towards the mattress and suffocated.

Specialists urge the parents not to ignore the advice that can help them avoid accidents. The little kids must sleep in special beds designed for them, which prevent them from falling. The mattresses must be stiff, adjusted to the size of the bed. During the first six months of life, the children must not sleep on pillows and soft mattresses.

A study carried out within the REPEMOL Project “Regionalization of the Pediatric Emergency and Intensive Care Services” reveals that only 66% of the parents realize the risk of their children being hurt at home. According to the National Heath Management Center, 60 children younger than five died last year as a result of suffocation, injuries, poisonings, drownings and road accidents.
