A number of opinion leaders consider both of the sides – Socialist MP Ion Ceban and Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca - are to blame for the clashes that happened in the meeting hall of the Chisinau Municipal Council on May 14. Such opinions were stated in the talk show “Fabrika” on Publika TV channel, IPN reports.

Journalist Ion Terguta reproached Ion Ceban for staging the provocation and using physical force, while Dorin Chiroatca for provoking the Socialists and for not calming things down. “I consider both of the sides are to blame. Ceban should have attended the Parliament’s sitting then, to fulfill his duties of MP. On the other hand, the Chisinau Council was to examine 800 draft decisions during one day at a time when these should have been examined during six months,” he stated.

Politologist Nicolai Tsveatcov considers the election campaign was unofficially launched by those clashes. “By the way the Socialists acted, it’s clear that everything was planned. Both of the sides made effort to attract the attention of the press. It is about two parties that have the biggest chances in the local elections, even if they are at opposite poles,” he said.

The dean of the Faculty of Law of the Moldova Free International University Alexandru Cauia said the clashers must be held accountable. “There were committed gross violations that are punished in accordance with the law. I hope the Parliament’s legal commission will take attitude towards the behavior of the two Socialist MPs. It’s clear that they pursued electoral goals. The appearance of Renato Usatyi was interesting, but this left when the journalists surrounded him,” he stated.

Media analyst Cristian Tabara thinks both of the sides knew or at least anticipated that an altercation will occur. “It was an ugly show. It’s sad that Dorin Chirtoaca joined in this show,” he said.
