The principal of the Romanian-French Lyceum “Gheorghe Asachi”, Boris Volosatii, affirms that the proceeding against those 4 students which broke the inscription “Moldovan” from the Lyceum’s frontispiece were triggered because of excessive publicity made by the press from Chisinau. Volosatii made this declaration during the “Solidarity Ribbon” action organized by the Liberal Party for supporting the students, teachers and the parents from “Gheorghe Asachi”. The representatives of LP, headed by the chairman of the party, Mihai Ghimpu, were giving out ribbons, at the moment the principal Boris Volosatii asked them to leave the territory of the institution, justifying that the action was not coordinated with him. As a rejoin, the president of LP, Mihai Ghimpu, declared that the Lyceum “Gheorghe Asachi” belongs to the inhabitants of Chisinau and by the action “Solidarity Ribbon”, the Liberal Party and its supporters plead for the fact that this institution has to continue promoting “Romanianship”. “Attacking lyceums means attacking the Romanian Language, Romanianship, national identity and if we will not fight back other lyceums will be knuckled down. In this way we will enter Europe as a fainthearted nation”, declared Ghimpu. Even after the end of the “Solidarity Ribbon” action the territory around the Lyceum was for a long time supervised by policemen. Against four students of the “Gheorghe Asachi” Lyceum were instituted penal proceedings for “group hooliganism” after they destroyed the inscription “Moldovan” of the frontispiece of the institution. According to the legislation in force, the hooliganism is punished by fines up to 20 thousand lei or imprisonment from 4 to 8 years.
