In the context of the tragic events with casualties in the EU member states, the Border Police decided to institute a stricter regime at all the border crossing points, especially at the Chisinau International Airport and some of the checkpoints on the border with Romania and Ukraine. Border checks will be intensified, in particular with regard to persons who are or come from states with armed conflicts on their territories, IPN reports.

According to the Border Police, an additional force of employees will be formed to intervene in case of bigger flows of passengers so as to fluidize transfrontier traffic. Canine teams will be actively involved to check baggage for explosive substances.

Special devices will be used to thoroughly examine the units of transport. The cooperation with the national and international law enforcement agencies will be stepped up. The Border Police employees who were earlier engaged in anti-terrorism exercises will be placed on the alert.

Some of the passengers will be subject to additional border checks, especially those who look suspicious. Within a normal regime, some 15% of the persons who cross the border are checked, but now this figure will increase to 80%.
