Books, paintings and jewelry among gifts received by President Sandu in 2022

Books, paintings, a carpet and pieces of jewelry: these were the gifts received in the last quarter of last year by President Maia Sandu during her official visits or visits by foreign officials to the Republic of Moldova.

The most expensive gift, estimated at 14,600 lei, was received by the Moldovan president from the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, Ilya Darchiashvili. This is a silver filigree and cloisonné enamel brooch by Georgian artist Thea Gurgenidze. Darchiashvili also presented the president with a handmade painting of the old city of Tbilisi.

Sandu received another gift, a pearl necklace and bracelet with yellow gold clasps, from the president of Georgia, Salome Zurabishvili. Its value is around 5,800 lei.

Last year, Maia Sandu also got a carpet woven by hand in traditional Moldovan style. The present was offered by members of organizations that support the elderly.

During her visit to the Czech Republic, the president received a black crystal vase, handmade by the Czech glassmaker and designer Anna Jožová, as a gift from the Czech Prime Minister, Petr Fiala. At the meeting with the Moldavian diaspora in the Czech Republic, the president got a monograph book and a painting with the ruler Ștefan cel Mare, by Teodor Buzu, a Moldavian artist living in the Czech Republic.

The President’s Office says that all protocol gifts are duly registered and have been transferred to the property of the Office.
