A “Book of Abandoned Tales” will be launched in Chisinau on May 28. The volume includes children’s stories written by authors from Bessarabia starting with the second half of the 20th century and offers them to the public in an online edition. To compile the book, there were read 55 books, 150 tales written by authors from the period during which the books in Bessarabia were printed in Romanian with Russian scrip. The stories were chosen by bibliographers and researchers of the National Children’s Library “Ion Creangă” of Chisinau, IPN reports, quoting a press release.

The book consists of fairytales and stories written in 1922-2016 by Bessarabian authors, such as Pavel Boțu, Victor, Sanda Lesnea, Aurel Scobioală, Ariadna Șalari, Gheorghe Gheorghiu and Ana Lupan.

The volume is illustrated in a modern style, based on the technique of handmade stamps. There is also an audio component of the project. The young readers can scan the QR codes from the pages of the book and listen to five tales read by actress Elena Frunze-Hatman. The actress’ voice is accompanied by five parts of the musical suite “The Carnival of the Animals” by Camille Saint-Saëns.

The collection “Book of Abandoned Tales” can be accessed free the website of Arbor Association for Culture and Arts. The volume is a project of Arbor Association implemented in partnership with the National Children’s Library “Ion Creangă” of Chisinau and represents a follow-up to a successful program of the Association – “Romanian Novel on Left Side of the Prut”.
