BNM honors Stefan Petrache with a commemorative coin presented to the artist’s family

Governor Anca Dragu presented the commemorative coin dedicated to the renowned singer Ștefan Petrache to his family. The coin was handed over as "an expression of the highest appreciation for the singer’s career and contribution to enriching our musical heritage", stated the National Bank in a press release cited by IPN.

According to BNM, in recognition of his exceptional contribution, Stefan Petrache was honored with the issuance of a commemorative coin on December 27, 2024, marking the 75th anniversary of his birth. The coin is part of the "Personalities" series, dedicated to outstanding figures in Moldova’s art, literature, science, and sports.

During the event, the BNM Governor emphasized that including Stefan Petrache in the series of personalities confirms the importance of music and artists in shaping the cultural identity of the Republic of Moldova. "Through this coin, we not only acknowledge his legacy but also pass on to future generations the respect and appreciation for the great creators of this nation", said the governor.

Anca Dragu highlighted that by issuing jubilee and commemorative coins, the National Bank of Moldova reaffirms its commitment to celebrating authentic cultural values and keeping alive the memory of those who have shaped the national identity.

"With emotion and deep respect, I present this commemorative coin as a symbol of our gratitude and admiration. This is a gesture through which we wish to keep alive the memory of a personality who left an indelible mark on culture", Anca Dragu said, addressing the Petrache family.

Stefan Petrache’s musical career began in 1966 with the band "Noroc," one of the most popular groups of the time. He later became a lead singer in several renowned bands, including "Plai" (1982-1987). For his valuable contribution, Stefan Petrache was also awarded the "Order of the Republic." The artist passed away on January 13, 2020.
