The MPs of the Parliament of the eleventh legislature suggested introducing a mechanism for examining the activity of the prosecutor general and for penalizing this as a result of a performance assessment. Disciplinary punishment or dismissal will follow. The bill to amend the law on the prosecution service was approved by the legal commission for appointments and immunities, IPN reports.
According to the commission’s head Olesea Stamate, the performance of the prosecutor general will be assessed annually by a commission constituted by the Superior Council of Prosecutors.
The commission approved a report on the draft decision concerning the creation of a special commission for choosing candidates for ombudsperson. The given commission will fully consist of members of the commission on human rights and interethnic relations and of the legal commission for appointments and immunities.
The commission also approved the report on the bill to amend a number of normative documents, in particular those concerning the activity of the National Integrity Authority so as to strengthen this institution and to optimize its activity in examining property and interest statements in a move to fulfill the conditions imposed by the EU for disbursing the second tranche of the macro-financial assistance.
Another endorsed bill amends the law on the National Anticorruption Center, including the method of choosing candidates for director, who are to be proposed on the initiative of at least 20 MPs. The candidates who will meet the criteria will be proposed to Parliament for confirmation.
The selection and appointment of the members of the Superior Council of Magistracy and the Superior Council of Prosecutors will be regulated by new provisions.
There were approved the draft decision on the acceptance of the resignation tendered by the director of the Competition Council and the bill to amend the law on the oil products market.
In a press briefing, the member of the legal commission for appointments and immunities Vasile Bolea said he proposed that the commission should also examine other important issue that derive from the electoral promises made by PAS and also BCS, but the PAS members didn’t support the proposal to consider such subjects as the zero tax on reinvested profit and supplementing of the agriculture development fund. The MP criticized the approved bills, saying he will ask international bodies to appraise these bills as they run counter to the Constitution and the recommendations of international institutions.
The bills endorsed by the legal commission for appointments and immunities will be submitted to Parliament for consideration in the first reading.
