The bill to reform the prosecution service could be adopted by the end of this year. The issue was discussed in the talk show “Moldova live” on the public TV channel Moldova 1, IPN reports.

Democratic MP Raisa Apolschi said they are working on this bill and are to finalize it the next few days so that it could be debated in the second reading. “There are 39 pages of amendments. We want it to be a very good bill. We took into account all the recommendations of the Venice Commission. I hope it will be passed by Parliament by this yearend,” stated the lawmaker.

Director of the Legal Resources Center Vladislav Gribincea also considers there are chances for Parliament to adopt the bill until the end of this year. “This bill should have been voted long ago. It also depends on the political conjuncture. However, for this law to be functional, the related legal framework, which was already prepared, should also be passed,” said the jurist.

Viorel Mosneaga, division head at the Prosecutor General’s Office, said the prosecutors are waiting for the prosecution service reform to be done. “There is a wrong perception in society that the prosecution service is politically controlled and that all the prosecutors are corrupt. This is not so. The new law on the prosecution service, in particular the provision that allows the prosecutor general to be named by the head of state, not by Parliament, will change this perception,” he stated.
