Belarus started sanitary control procedure of wines imported from Moldova and Georgia

The Hygiene and Epidemiology Center of Belarus announced that it has started the control procedure of imported wines from Moldova and Georgia. The sanitary service has taken already 54 tests of Moldovan and Georgian wines, and did not find any pesticide and metals, according to Belarus press reports. Staring 27 March, Russian Federation banned wine imports from Moldova and Georgia on the ground that they would contain harmful pesticides. According to the head of hygiene section, Angela Skuranovici, previous results of the research will be made public after 3 May. „The checks are done according to the order of the state sanitary doctor of 10 April 2006 „On strengthening the state sanitary control on the traffic of alcoholic beverages”. At the moment, the territorial sanitary structures make controls at the delivering enterprises and organizations, retailed purchasers and productors of alcoholic beverages. There are taken samples for laboratory tests. First of all, the presence of toxic elements is checked: zinc, lead, as well as pesticides,” Skuranovici noted. Belarus official also mentioned that there were taken 54 tests of Moldovan and Georgian wines and there were not found any dangerous element. „All samples are according to security norms”. On the other hand, Russian News Agency RIA Novosti announced that Prosecution Office of Moscow has started the control of respecting the legislation regulating the alcoholic goods circuit. „Retailers will be checked if they respect the legislation on protection of consumers and people’s wellbeing. A special attention is paid to quality and harmfulness of alcoholic production made in Moldova and Georgia”, according to information note of the Prosecution. The number of customs declarations for introducing imported wines on Russian market, the volume of imported alcoholic production and cases of incorrect declarations, presenting of expired or false documents will also be checked.
