A number of supporters and members of the Electoral Bloc of the Communists and the Socialists (BeCS) marched in the center of Chisinau on July 4. They chanted “Moldova!”, “For social justice!” and “Moldova has a future!”. A number of incidents were witnessed during the demonstration entitled “We Love Moldova”. Supporters of the Alliance for the Union of Romanians (AUR) formed a column in front of the BeCS demonstrators, but were shortly driven away by the police, IPN reports.

From the event’s rostrum, Vladimir Voronin said that those attending the event love Moldova as this is their homeland, the history of the nation, parents and grandparents, while the persons who are currently in Parliament and the presidential administration struggle against integrity and against the country’s sovereignty.

Vladimir Voronin expressed his conviction that BeCS will be supported by most of the country’s population as the people got tired of so many promises, of such democracy, of thefts and foolish things committed against the people.

For his part, Socialist leader Igor Dodon said the demonstrator was staged between Parliament and the Presidential Palace because, after the elections of last November, the presidential administration passed under foreign control and the task of BeCS is to make sure that Parliament remains independent, in the people’s service.

“We must be united so as to remove the traitors who sold themselves to others, those who work against the statehood of our country,” said Igor Dodon, noting that the state and religion for the Socialists and Communists are red lines that should not be crossed. He added that peace between ethnic groups is as important.

Speaker of Parliament Zinaida Grechanyi, a Socialist heavyweight, urged those attending to tell the people that they should support the team that knew to manage the crisis, to liquidate the country’s foreign debts and to pay salaries and pensions, to develop the country and attract investments. No one else after 2009 could replicate this example. The Socialists will never use those base methods that are used by their opponents who degrade the farmers, the sick people and the children.

At the end of the march, the participants adopted a resolution with ten theses concerning the protection and reforming of the country, including the adoption of a new Constitution as a result of a referendum that would stipulate the sovereignty of the country, the Moldovan identity of the majority population and the neutrality of the Republic of Moldova and would ban the sale of land to foreigners. The BeCS also wants social guarantees for each citizen; doubling of maternal capital, banning by law of the closure of social facilities (kindergartens, schools, medical centers, hospitals, post offices in the country’s settlements); a strong economy; support for national producers; implementation of youth support programs; “Moldova’s Village Program: full modernization of rural infrastructure; interethnic peace, and peaceful, but safe foreign policy.
