The MPs of the Bloc of Communists and Socialists (BCS) consider the current food consumption norms should be reviewed as public health depends on this. They also consider the minimum salary that is now 3,500 lei in the real sector and the minimum pension of 2,278 lei should be correlated with the real cost of the minimum subsistence level, IPN reports.

In a news conference, MP Vladimir Odnostalco accused the government of generating ‘social and economic cataclysms’ by its actions and inaction, while the population can hardly cope. The people have to divide the small pensions and salaries between food products and public utilities and sometimes cannot cover all the incurred costs.

“For 2021, statistics show the sum of 2,154 lei. This is the sum needed on average by a person for existing. This sum includes the food products, public utilities, clothing, footwear, transport, etc. Can these costs be covered with such a sum? No, evidently,” stated the MP.

The BCS MPs insist on the quarterly indexation of the minimum pensions and small salaries for the vulnerable people to be able to cover the costs. A legislative proposal to this effect was introduced into Parliament. According to the MP, the BCS group proposed over 50 social initiatives, but these are not accepted by the parliamentary majority.
