Bat colony found at University of Medicine moved to Tiganca

A colony of bats was discovered at the State University of Medicine and Pharmaceutics “Nicolae Testemitanu” in Chisinau during window replacement works. Experts of the Zoology Institute of the Academy of Sciences took the over 300 bats to a cave of the bats reserve “Tiganca, where they can survive, IPN reports.

The bats of the “Nyctalus
noctula” species were hibernating in a window case. The operation to save the colony lasted for about three hours. The experts of the Academy of Sciences and the workers who found the bats received diplomas from the Ministry of the Environment.

A decade ago, there was rescued a colony of about 1000 bats of the same species. It was also found at the University of Medicine.

The bats “
Nyctalus noctula” live for 28 to 30 years.
