The talks on signing the Basic Political Treaty and the Border Accord with Romania are getting to a close, President Vladimir Voronin told a news conference on Wednesday. According to him, all the problems have been settled, including the ones related to the language in which the documents have been drafted, being chosen the wording “in the official language of each state,” Info-Prim Neo reports.
Moldova is ready to sign the two documents, regardless of the order in which Bucharest may want. It's only the Romanian leadership which shall make a political decision, Vladimir Voronin said. The Convention on minor border traffic will be signed only after signing the ratifying the Border Accord, the Chisinau President reiterated.
Vladimir Voronin has underlined that the trip of the Romanian Foreign Minister, Lazar Comanescu, to Chisinau was “one of the most resultant and constructive visits of a Romanian dignitary to Chisinau” during his mandate of Moldovan President. “The discussions have proved Romania and Moldova are capable of resolving the existent issues,” he said.
According to the President, the decision to open Romanian consulates in Cahul and Balti was taken “on reciprocity basis,” as the Moldovan side made the decision to open consulates in Iasi and Constanta. Yet the President says it's just a political matter, but it's a need. There are very many Moldovan citizens in Iasi, while on the seashore – there are Moldovan tourists.
The Romanian Foreign Minister, Lazar Comanescu, payed a visit to Moldova on July 7, invited by his counterpart Andrei Stratan. Experts from Chisinau appreciate the trip as a thaw in the Moldo-Romanian relationships, which became tense last December, after the Chisinau authorities declared non-grata two Romanian diplomats and expelled priests of the Basarabian Church.
