Banning broadcasts is not sufficient to stop foreign propaganda in Moldova, said experts invited to the talk show “Moldova live” on the public TV channel Moldova 1, IPN reports.

Vlad Turcanu, former spokesman for ex-President Nicolae Timofti, said a more complex approach should be adopted to the problem of foreign propaganda. “This problem cannot be solved only by the Broadcasting Coordination Council. Other institutions should be involved, such as the Security and Intelligence Service, Ministry of Justice, Ministry of the Interior, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, etc. I don’t think the problem of foreign propaganda will be solved only by limiting the road casting of programs. This issue is related to national security. Parliament delayed the adoption of the national security strategy and now we found out that President Igor Dodon withdrew the document. This is strange,” stated Turcanu.

Valeriu Renita, ex-spokesman for ex-President Vladimir Voronin, also said the banning of particular programs is not enough to stop foreign propaganda. “The phenomenon is complex and cannot be dealt with by one law. The approach and the financial support instruments should be broadened. In some of the cases, the information became toxic,” he stated.

Democratic MP Sergiu Sarbu, one of the co-authors of the bill aimed at counteracting foreign propaganda, said an initiative was needed in this regard as there were no instruments for blocking foreign propaganda. Earlier, there was a similar bill that banned the broadcasting of particular foreign TV programs, while the current bill is flexible and expects a positive approach on the part of media outlets.
