The street lighting in Balti town will be switched off every night. In a post on Facebook, mayor Alexander Petkov apologized to the locals, explaining that the decision is "dictated by the need to maintain the stability of the energy system and to rationally use the town’s budget," IPN reports.
The street lights will be turned off between 00:00 and 05:00 a.m. The effort is part of the national initiative to save electricity and, according to the authorities in Balti, the reduction of public electricity consumption is also a consequence of the substantial increase in charges.
