Average salary goes up 9% in real terms

The monthly average salary of a person working in the economy of Moldova (companies with 20 and more employees) made up MDL 1,783 in January-March 2007 and increased by 23% against the similar period last year (9% in real terms). According to the data provided by the National Statistics Bureau, the average salary in the state-paid sector amounted to MDL 1,416, in the real sector of the economy – MDL 1,991. The average salary received by an employee constituted MDL 1,868 in March 2007, by 22% more compared with March 2006. In the state-paid field the average salary constituted MDL 1,455, in the real sector – MDL 2,095. The highest average salaries were offered to the employees engaged in financial activities – MDL 3,987 (+16.1%); in energy – MDL 3,114 (+25.9%); in transport and communications – MDL 2,725 (+24.1%); in constructions – MDL 2,566 (+40.4%). In the mining industry the average salary constituted MDL 2,434 (+29.7%); in industry – MDL 2,268 (+21.5%); in the public administration – MDL 2,201 (+45.1%); in real estate transactions – MDL 2,178 (+26.4%); in the processing industry – MDL 2,089 (+19.6%); food industry – M,DL 2052 (+22.8%); wholesale and retail sales – MDL 1,694 (+33.4%); beverages industry – MDL 1,682 (+11.6%), hotel industry – MDL 1,602 (+27.6%), fish-breeding – MDL 1,099 (+3.9%). The average salary of a teacher constituted MDL 1,156, remaining at the same level compared to the similar period last year, and the salary of medical workers – MDL 1,310, by 13% more. The lowest salary was received by farmers, persons employed in the hunting industry and forestry – MDL 863, by 35.4% more against the similar period last year.
