The part of the apartment building in Otaci town that remained more or less intact after the other part collapsed will be demolished. The adjoining and other blocks in the town that risk collapsing will be examined, Prime Minister Maia Sandu stated in a press briefing after the meeting of the Commission for Emergencies convened on June 21, IPN reports.

“We agreed with colleagues from other ministries to determine the necessities and the prices of apartments in the given town so as to urgently decide the financial assistance for those affected,” stated Maia Sandu.

General Inspectorate for Emergencies chief Mihail Harabagiu said the clearing works will be prolonged. “Today there was performed a large volume of work, which was probably the most dangerous one. The slabs that posed a danger of collapse were taken down,” he stated.

He also said that the Inspectorate will comply with the measures presented by Premier Sandu so that the people in Otaci live as usual.

A part of a nine-story building situated in Otaci collapsed in the evening of June 19. No one was hurt as the dwellers were evacuated before the collapse.
