Aureliu Ciocoi and Ann Linde: Bilateral political dialogue should be stepped up

The Moldovan-Swedish relations are in the ascendant. In the course of this year, the bilateral political dialogue should be stepped up, sector cooperation should be extended and the development projects implemented in Moldova with Sweden’s support should be put to good use, acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Aureliu Ciocoi and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Sweden Ann Linde stated in a meeting in Rome, IPN reports.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, the Swedish minister expressed her confidence that the bilateral relations between the two states will continue to develop in areas of mutual interest, reiterating the support for implementing democratic reform in the Republic of Moldova, including by providing financial assistance through the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency for (SIDA).

The officials discussed the environmental projects in Moldova and those related to gender quality and the fight again violence that are implemented with the assistance of the Swedish partners.

They also conferred on topical subjects from the OSCE agenda given that Sweden is holding the OSCE Chairmanship and devotes special attention to the improvement of the efficiency of this organization in preventing and settling conflicts in the OSCE area.

The interlocutors exchanged opinions on the current state of the Transnistrian conflict settlement and the prospects of making headway in this process in the immediate period. Aureliu Ciocoi reiterated the Moldovan authorities’ readiness to further maintain a dynamic and constructive dialogue with all the players involved in the process and to contribute to creating the conditions needed for holing a new round of talks in the 5+2 format that was set for this autumn .
