After the PUN leader Octavian Țîcu rejected AUR’s proposal to form an electoral bloc, the representative of AUR called on all the unionists of the party led by Țîcu to join them and to compete in the July elections together with them. According to representatives of AUR, Octavian Țîcu rejected the idea of forming a bloc with AUR without consulting his mates. For his part, Iurie Reniță, a potential candidate for MP on the PUN list, said the decision to run in elections independently was taken by the Political Council of PUN, IPN reports.

Even if they insisted on the formation of an electoral bloc between PUN and AUR, after the representatives of AUR agreed with such a formula, the PUN leader Octavian Țîcu said the party will compete in the upcoming elections by itself. The representatives of AUR asserted the decision was taken unilaterally by Octavian Țîcu, without discussing it with the members of the party.

“The largest part of the PUN members continue to believe that the formation of a bloc is the unionists’ only possibility of winning. They consider they should run together with AUR, but are held hostage by Octavian Țîcu. That’s why we called on all the members of PUN to join us. Those from PUN who are dissatisfied will shed light in public,” Valeriu Munteanu stated in the program “Black Box” on TV8 channel.

On the other side, Iurie Reniță, a potential candidate for MP on the PUN list, said AUR’s proposal to form an electoral bloc came too late.

“A meeting of the Political Council of PUN was held on a Saturday and this discussed the situation and decided how to act. No proposal from AUR came by that Saturday. The National Council decided PUN will run independently. I regret that the joining of the unionist forces under common colors failed. I pleaded for even a larger formula that would have included the unionists and the pro-Europeans,” stated Iurie Reniță.

The National Unity Party submitted the documents for being registered as en election contender to the CEC on May 26. The party’s electoral list consists of party members and persons who do not form part of PUN, but are active promoters of the Union with Romania.
