The unionists of the Alliance for the Union of Romanians (AUR), who stretched a huge tricolor in front of the Monument to Ruler Stephan the Great and Holy in central Chisinau on July 4, were pushed, hit and prevented from peacefully mounting their counterdemonstration against the illegalities of the Socialists, the party stated in a press release that is quoted by IPN.

AUR condemns the barbarous actions of the police that showed that these protect the Socialists. According to the party, the unionists on July 4 staged a spontaneous event to protest against “the betrayals of the Socialists and the Communists who took the people to the street by force.”

According to AUR leader Vlad Biletski, the police officers flagrantly violated the law. The party intends to file a complaint.

Members of the press service of the General Police Inspectorate Contacted were unavailable for comment.

Immediately after the incident, Liberal heavyweight Dorin Chirtoacă pounced upon Igor Dodon and Vladimir Voronin, who were walking along other mates in front of the column in the march “We Love Moldova” that was staged by BeCS. The politician was yet stopped by persons marching by.

Later, Dorin Chirtoacă explained his gesture, saying it was a reaction to the actions of the Socialists and the Communists. “We were staying peacefully with the tricolor near the Monument to Stephan the Great and, as Dodon and Voronin instructed the police to attack us, to hit our mates and to use teargas and step onto our tricolor, I tried to reach the two mafia heads to demand that they should account for their actions. I didn’t intend to come into conflict,” Dorin Chirtoacă posted on Facebook, saying these will be punished by the July 11 vote.

For his part, Igor Dodon commented on the incident, saying this is the true face of the parties of the right (unionist, pro-European and pro-NATO ones). “This is the chaos and violence that these parties - PAS, PUN, AUR and others – represent (...) The march “We Love Moldova” showed the difference between confidence, calmness and the patriotic Moldovan spirit of the Communists and the Socialists, on the one hand, and the political extremism of the unionists, on the other hand,” he posted on Facebook.
