The people who will take part in the protest set to take place in central Chisinau on August 26 have all the reasons to protest, while the authorities should have expected such developments after they invalidated the Chisinau early mayoral elections. The protest will not be supported by the parties of the left, while the unionists will not distinguish themselves within this protest and this diminishes its importance. Such opinions were stated by political analysts Anatol Taranu and Corneliu Ciurea in the program “Fabrika” on Publika TV channel, IPN reports.

Anatol Taranu said the people who will take to the streets on August 26 have all the reasons to protest. The organizers aim to make sure that the protest is the largest possible one given that the previous protests didn’t meet the expectations in terms of turnout. “The intention is to eliminate the faults witnessed at the previous protests by the August 26 protest,” he noted.

The analyst also said the protest will be mounted one day before the Independence Day of the Republic of Moldova, when the authorities will stage festivities. The protesters intend to put up tents in central Chisinau and the senior administration will have to find a solution to deal with such a situation.

For his part, Corneliu Ciurea said the dialogue of the parties of the right and a part of civil society with the unionists failed and there is no clear policy of cooperation between the two camps. There will be unionists in the central square of Chisinau on August 26, but these will not have a distinct voice as they will be preoccupied with the unionist event scheduled for September 1. Furthermore, the parties of the left categorically refuse to take part in these protests and even ridicule them. “In such conditions, without the unionists and the parties of the left, these protests, even if they are massive, are doomed to particular marginalization because they do not embrace the whole society,” he stated, adding the fact that not all the sections of society will be represented in central Chisinau will diminish the importance of this protest and the only hope of the protesters is have as many representatives of the diaspora as possible present at the event.
