The attempt by which the MPs want to dismiss Maia Sandu will fail. After this impeachment attempt, the people will take to the street to support the President, while Maia Sandu’s rating will rise significantly, Valeriu Pașa, projects manager at “WatchDog” Community, stated in IPN’s public debate  “Transitional government, snap elections or impeachment: for and against, benefits and risks” that forms part of IPN’s series “Developing Political Culture though Public Debates”.

“It is highly improbable that 200,000 public sector employees will be forced to go and vote for the dismissal of Maia Sandu. It is legal for the citizens to protest as the politicians promised snap parliamentary elections. It’s not ok for the politicians to deceive the voters,” stated Valeriu Pașa.

According to him, after the impeachment attempt, Igor Dodon will be proposed for Prime Minister so as to improve somehow the rating of the PSRM. At the same time, after the impeachment attempt, there will be invested a non-popular government and the Republic of Moldova will experience prolonged political instability, but this will not last endlessly.

“A transitional government is not something bad in times of a pandemic as this can unlock the relations with the foreign partners, not yet if some of the politicians exhibit hypocrisy. It was duplicity when the PSRM, the Shor Party and “For Moldova” said they want snap elections. 70% of the current MPs will not enter the next Parliament,” said Valeriu Pașa.

He noted that the PSRM-PAS dialogue for overcoming the political crisis would have taken pace if the PSRM had been headed not by Igor Dodon, but by Zinaida Grechanyi, as earlier. “Maia Sandu no longer wants a dialogue with the PSRM as it is seen that the Socialists lie when they say that they want snap parliamentary elections. Igor Dodon’s toxicity resides in his lies that are more often than the true things he says and the people got tired of him. I presume that Igor Dodon was advised by the Kremlin not to play the impeachment game,” stated the projects manager at “WatchDog” Community.

The public debate “Transitional government, snap elections or impeachment: for and against, benefits and risks” is the 174th installment of the project “Developing Political Culture though Public Debates” that is implemented by IPN with the assistance of the Hanns Seidel Foundation.
