At most eight candidates could run in presidential elections

The period for accepting documents for registering candidates for President is over. The Central Election Commission said at most eight candidates could compete in the presidential elections on November 1, 2020, IPN reports.

Six electoral contenders have been registered so far and the files of two more applicants are being examined.

The following candidates were registered: Renato Usatîi of Our Party; Andrei Năstase of the Party “Dignity and Truth Platform”; Tudor Deliu of the Liberal Democratic Party; Igor Dodon, who is running independently; Violeta Ivanov of the Shor Party, and Maia Sandu of the Party of Action and Solidary. The files under examination belong to Octavian Țîcu of the National Unity Party and Naționale and to Dorin Chirtoacă of the UNION Electoral Bloc.

Under the Electoral Code, the period for nominating candidates for President starts 60 days before the election day and ends 30 days before the election day.
