ASM president should remain member of Government, Gheorghe Duca

The president of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova (ASM) should remain an ex officio member of the Government as he represents the entire national scientific community, the Academy’s president Gheorghe Duca said when asked by Info-Prim Neo to comment on the reports that he may be excluded from the new Government. Gheorghe Duca said that similar reports existed last year, but it was then reached the conclusion that the president of the ASM should be a member of the Government as he represents the entire scientific community. “There is nothing ridiculous and abnormal in this fact. We are a community with special autonomy, as stipulated in the Science and Innovation Code. The ASM played its role. Its infrastructure is used to administer the whole science,” said Gheorghe Duca. He also said that the Academy was always in good partnership not only with the Government, but also with the ministries. The president of the ASM has been an ex officio member of the Government since 2004, when the Science and Innovation Code was adopted. The Governor of Gagauzia is also an ex officio member of the Government. Until 2004, the list also included the Mayor of Chisinau.
