Admirers, friends and relatives gathered together at the grave or artist Maria Biesu on May 15 to lay flowers there and to commemorate two years of her death, IPN reports.

Those attending spoke about pleasant moments from their lives, remembering the prima donna. Her colleagues from the National Opera House said soprano Maria Biesu was loved and respected. She impressed by her attitude to arts and to those who performed arts and transmitted them to the people.

People’s Artist Mihai Munteanu, who was a colleague and a friend of Maria Biesu, spoke about her way of loving the public, the packed houses at her concerts and her determination to always look for possibilities of going abroad to make Moldova known by the talent of its artists. “Maria Biesu was like a tuning pipe for us. Regretfully, the young people forget, we also forget and it’s a pity. Not many of those who remember Maria Biesu came to her grave today. Maria was sad when the halls weren’t full. She said the people do not understand opera. However, she was loved and respected,” said the tenor

He added that the media kept silent after the artist’s death. “We speak more about somebody when they are no longer among us. However, they speak not much about Maria Biesu, but she left us eternal cultural heritage. Nobody suggested naming a street in her name and building a monument in her memory,” Mihai Munteanu stated for IPN.

People’s Artist Maria Biesu remains in memory the prima donna of the National Opera House, a laureate of state awards, university lecturer, academician, “Doctor Honoris-Causa”, knight of the Order of the Republic and of the National Order “Romania’s Star”, president of the Union of Musicians of Moldova and vice president of the Moscow World Union of Musicians since 1992.
