The arrest by Interpol, at the request of the Moldovan police, of the son of the self-styled minister of the interior of Transnistria, endangers the dialogue between Chisinau and Tiraspol, but Chisinau must not concede. Such conclusions were formulated in the talk show “Fabrika” on Publika TV channel, IPN reports.

Former director of the Security and Information Service Valentin Dediu considers that Tiraspol will make everything possible to give a political note to this case. “The official Chisinau must not make concessions. The law is above everything and those who committed crimes must be punished. Those from the left side of the Nistru do not obey the law. They do not respect even their own laws, which were copied from Russia,” he said.

Lawyer of “Promo-Lex” Association Vadim Vieru said this case must be regarded as legal proceedings that should not influence the negotiations between Chisinau and Tiraspol. “What happened in Athens is part of a legal process. If the man is extradited, he will be able to hire a lawyer or will be represented by a public defender, if he does not have money. The suspect may be innocent. But the procedures must be respected and this case should not be transformed into a political one,” he stated.

Constitutional law expert Vitalie Gamurari said this case is an occasion for Chisinau to maintain its position. If it concedes, its position in the dialogue with Tiraspol will become weaker. “I heard that Nina Shtanski already contacted by phone Deputy Prime Minister Victor Osipov and inquired about this case. But Chisinau must not concede as a precedent will be set,” he stated.

The head of Transnistria’s anticorruption division Maxim Kuzmichov, 25, who is the son of the breakaway region’s minister of the interior Gennady Kuzmichov, was arrested by Interpol on the airport in Athens, where he came to spend his vacation. Maxim Kuzmichov was put on the wanted list by the Bender Police Inspectorate because he is suspected of organizing a criminal group dealing with blackmail and kidnapping.
