The parties that ruled until relatively recently caused so great disillusionment that society would accept only the full replacement of the political elite, said the director of the Institute for Public Policy Arcadie Barbarosie. In an interview for Radio Free Europe, Barbarosie stated that the polls carried out in September-October show that the people, especially the pro-European voters, do not know what party to support and do not have a party that would represent their interests on this segment that is so rich politically, IPN reports.

As to the formation of a new government, Arcadie Barbarosie said that he does not yet see conditions where a more or less technocratic Cabinet could work. As everyone realizes, the state institutions are captured and politically controlled. “All the attempts of the Democratic Party to form a government and an alliance failed, while a politically unaffiliated government should enjoy support in Parliament so that the laws are adopted. A technocratic government in a period of crisis can function when Parliament understands that such a government is needed in the country. There is now no such understanding in our Parliament,” stated the analyst.

Asked if the Western diplomats still wish to cooperate with the politicians who disappointed so much, Arcadie Barbarosie said the development partners generally work with those who are chosen by the people and even if more ‘exotic’ parties win the elections, like the Our Party, the development partners will cooperate with a government represented by such a party too. The only condition is for the government to have a clear program that would be based on clear principles and values that we call European.

The analyst noted that what we have today and had relatively recently were governments that seriously violated many of those principles and they are thus criticized by the development partners from the West and less by those from the East, which are interested not in values, democracy and human rights, but in gaining full control of society. “This is not a viable model and cannot be accepted by us and what the given government promotes and if its keeps its promises will depend on how the people vote,” he stated.
