The Chisinau Appeals Court rejected the appeals filed against the release on parole of ex-Premier Vlad Filat as inadmissible. This way, Filat remains on the outside, IPN reports.
After the decision was pronounced, one of the lawyers Viorel Berliba said the court examined a number of appeals. Four of them were submitted by private individuals and the court ruled that these didn’t hold interest in the criminal case and that the personal interests of these persons weren’t somehow encroached upon. The appeal filed by the Administration of Penitentiary Institutions was also dismissed as inadmissible, while the one submitted by the administration of Penitentiary No. 13 was rejected as groundless given that the release on parole was initiated by an approach made by the institution and this was accepted by the first court.
For his part, Vlad Filat said that today the court passed a test and that the appeals filed against his release were identical, being submitted in a particular atmosphere and in a particular order. “I really hope that we will soon reach the situation when justice will start to be done in the Republic of Moldova,” he stated, noting that he hoped the court will take such a decision, but wasn’t sure about it. He added that after December 5, after the appeals were filed, he had gone through a rough patch and that uncertainty destroyed him.
Vlad Filat was arrested in October 2015 and on June 27, 2016 was sentenced to nine years in jail for passive corruption and influence peddling, being held at Penitentiary No. 13 in Chisinau. On December 3, he was set free based on a judgment passed by the Ciocana Court.
