The owners of apartments will be able to sign direct contracts with operators that provide water supply and sewerage services. Such changes to the Law on the Public Water Supply and Sewerage Service were passed by Parliament in the first reading on June 9, IPN reports.

Contacted by IPN, bill author, Socialist MP Adrian Lebedinski said the law provides that the manager is the one that signs the contract for the supply of water. But this should be done by the apartment owners. When the proposed changes take effect, the operator will sign direct contacts with the apartment owner on the initiative of one of the sides, within 30 calendar days of the submission of an application.

Liberal MP Lilian Carp said more problems related to the water supply networks inside the building could appear in the future as those who manage these will be responsible for their repair. Also, differentiated taxes could be instituted as the taxes for maintaining the block, which now goes directly to the manager, will be included in these.

The provisions will come into force when they are published in the Official Gazette.
